LTE Cavity Bandpass Filter

LTE Cavity Bandpass Filter

Fast, Helpful Facts About LTE Cavity Band Pass Filters

Whether you’re a simple amateur radio enthusiast, or a high-ranking expert on satellites and various defense or surveillance equipment, there’ll be one item or element that will be common in both individuals, and it’s that both of these occupations use “band pass filters”.

A band pass filter is a device that’s seen in most electronics and communication devices, from ham radios to mobile phones, satellites and other high-tech communication devices. And of the different types of filters, one of the most commonly used today is LTE cavity band pass filters.

What’s A Band Pass Filter?

A “band pass” filter is a device or tool that passes (and filters) frequencies within a certain range, and it rejects or “attenuates” frequencies outside that applicable range. Thus, whether it’s a UHF or L-Band, or LTE cavity band pass filter, the filter’s main job in simple terms, would be to allow the same frequency bands, and disallow the entry of bands outside of its frequency level or range.

The word “band pass” is actually an adjective which describes a type of filtering process, and an ideal band pass filter would need to be completely flat pass band (with no gain or attenuation all throughout), and completely attenuates all frequencies outside the passband.

What Is LTE?

The world of communications technology has vastly improved, and evolved, from the cable telegrams and ham radios of yesterday. Today, you’ll hear of stuff such as LTE, which is actually defined as “a standard for wireless communication of high speed data for mobile phones and servers, or data terminals”.

LTE is based on the GSM and UMTS/HSPA network technology, but it increases the speed and capacity as it uses a different radio interface, along with a host of other major network improvements. However, the LTE wireless interface is not compatible with 2G or 3G networks, thus it must, or should be operated on a separate radio spectrum.

What Makes LTE Cavity Filters Great?

Band pass filters come in different shapes, sizes and design configurations. One design element that makes a filter tough and fit for more demanding requirements, are “cavity” filters. In the LTE realm, filters with a “cavity” are deemed great for applications where low insertion rates and extremely high performance are needed.

LTE cavity filters are available today in frequency ranges of 10 MHz to 40 GHz, and with bandwidth options from 0.1% to as much as 66%. In general, most cavity filters also provide truly high Q and low insertion loss, as well as steep skirt selectivity, and narrower bandwidths, as compared to discrete component filters.

LTE cavity filters have also vastly improved capacities today, with some filters for 700 MHz or more available for uplink and downlink bands, and they fully meet the stringent requirements posed by dense or crowded channel spacing.

The new models also have more than 40 dB of rejection at 700 kHz from passband to stopband at band edges, and have low insertion loss. The new LTE cavity band pass filters are also available of indoor and outdoor installation, and can easily be customized to serve various requirements of clients too.
